Bug Bite Relief

Bug Bites in Belize

Visiting the Tropics often includes bug bites. The locals, while still getting bit, have developed an immunity to the bugs. You, a visitor, have no immunity to the bug bites.

This mixture helps deter and reduce the frequency of bites and also helps sooth and relieve the itching and swelling caused by bug bites.

In the empty Spray Bottle add Neem Oil to the -Neem Oil- fill line.
Neem oil is a naturally occurring pesticide and repellent found in seeds from the Neem tree.

Then, add Peppermint Essential Oil to the -Peppermint- fill line.
Peppermint oil creates a cooling sensation on the skin reducing burning, stinging, and itching sensations caused by bites or stings.

Then, add Water (Preferably Bottled Water) to the -Water- fill line.

You will have about 1 oz of spray to carry in your pocket.

Shake well and spray over exposed skin and clothing edges.

Gently rub into skin and feel the cooling effect of the Peppermint Essential Oil and the slowly evaporating water.

Do Not Spray Directly to your Face.

Spray on finger tips, then spread across fingers before applying to your face.

To relieve itching of a single bite a little Peppermint Essential Oil on a Cotton Swab applied directly to the bite will help reduce the itch and swelling. You can also apply a diluted mixer by putting a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil in a teaspoon of water and dipping the Cotton Swab in that.

The Peppermint Essential Oil and the Neem Oil are all natural.

Wash your fingers before you eat finger food, however, should you forget, these natural oils are not toxic.

I visit Belize once or twice a year and stay for more than 30 days on each visit. I stay in Placencia Village on the peninsula. The noseeums, doctor flies and other bugs are a common nuisance. This spray has helped me fend off many bugs and relieve the itching of existing bites. During high bite times, sunrise, sunset and after it rains, locals have also used my spray in preference to chemical sprays.
