Four times the size of its closest competitor, today ICANN-accredited Go Daddy is the largest domain registrar in the world. Go Daddy also sells Web Hosting and E-business related products. 45 million domain names are under their management, that number was reached in 2010.

Bob Parsons founded Jomax Technologies in 1997. In 1999 the name was changed to Go Daddy after an employee brainstorming session during which ‘Big Daddy’ was suggested for the domain name, but revealed to be taken and Parson’s suggested ‘Go Daddy’ which was available.

Legislation in 2007 and 2008 cracking down on questionable online pharmacies and child predators was lobbied for by Go Daddy. Then, in March of 2010, they stopped registering .CN domains in China. China requires a lot of personal information to register a domain and Go Daddy decided not to participate in that process.

TV viewers of the 2005 Super Bowl saw Go Daddy’s first advertising and since then their marketing has included sports sponsorships.
