Amazon is arguably the largest online retailer in the world. It started as a online bookstore in 1995 and did not become profitable until the fourth quarter of 2001. Jeff Bezos incorporated Cadabra, Inc in 1994 in the state of Washington. Quickly the name was changed because Cadabra sounded like ‘cadaver’ which is how it was sometimes heard by people. The name Amazon was chosen in reference to the river of the same name and it starts with the letter ‘A’, which puts it towards the top of alphabetic lists. The company went online in 1995 and reincorporated in Delaware in 1996. It is the parent company of many other online companies including Zappos and has investments in LivingSocial, a local deal website. Their logo is intended to imply – products from A to Z with the arrow representing the smiling face of happy customers.

In Some U.S. cities Amazon has Amazon Flex Drivers. Independent drivers contracted to fulfill the final section, from local warehouse to your residence, of your delivery. During the day 4 hour time blocks are available for drivers to select. They arrive at their local warehouse at the scheduled time, pack their cars with packages, then follow the map generated by the Amazon App and deliver the packages. Upon completion of the route they are paid a lump some for the delivery block.
