Argument of the Day #8

Why “You Hate Immigrants” — But Rarely “You Hate Americans”?

I’ve noticed something in immigration debates, both online and in person.

When someone is described as “illegal” or questioned about legal status, the pushback often sounds like:

“You hate [insert nationality/ethnicity].”

Or, just as frequently:

“You hate immigrants.”

But here’s the interesting part:
If the same person were here legally, the exact same critic would almost always say:

“You hate Americans.”
